Tenacious
I’d like to say it was tenacity, that I was tenacious. I’ve had some major obstacles to overcome throughout my life, as a tiny tot, as a teen, as an adult, and even now I face more situations that I must be tenacious to survive.
Years ago I fell smashed my heel, broke the hinge off my ankle broke my leg and they thought my hip was broken. It was an accident pure and simple, but the consequences were huge. It was supposed to be a 20-minute surgery and ended up 3 1/2 hours. Thirteen hours later they wheeled me into surgery. I woke up the following morning, saw the cast and thought, alright, they fixed the problem.
A few hours later the surgeon walked in and asked how I was doing. Fine says I. “Ok, here’s the thing, we repaired everything (even the preexisting broken leg that was never fixed) and I’m sorry to say even after the best work I have ever done, I have to tell you, you’ll never walk again.”
I looked at him as if he had two heads. I’m thinking you’re a great surgeon, you put me back together again. Then my second thought was, (pardon my french as I didn’t swear in those days) f that! I have a 2 1/2 and 7 1/2 year old. Not happening. That’s completely crazy. I don’t accept that!
So when (12 weeks later) they took the cast off, he seemed pleased by what he saw. When I was told to walk five steps, I walked 10. When I was told walk one block, I walked five and so it went. Until I was walking everywhere. No longer with the elegant classy walk I’d had before, I walked flat-footed and couldn’t move my ankle. He’d screwed it together with 3 screws using the paste that once was my heel, painstakingly removed from my toes, and that’s what became my ankle joint.
So whether it was tenacious determination or simply determination, I’m not sure. No, I’ve never been able to ski, skate, swim, dance, or run since. But I walked!
Whatever circumstance is telling you it can’t be done, it’s not possible, but it is worthwhile and been a life-long goal such as writing your best seller? Believe in yourself, be tenacious, You Can Do It! Remember, you are worthwhile, your dreams are worthwhile, your goal is worthwhile. Tenacity pays off! It moves you from a stagnate position where you are stalled, into an active productive push ahead. Believe me, if I can do it, you can too!
Just a thought from another humble eager excited writer.
Can’t is not in your vocabulary.

No, Charles, it isn’t. My kids simply call me stubborn. But you are right, can’t isn’t in my vocabulary. I will find a way to do what is necessary come hell or high water as they say. lol And thank you very much for reading my ditty.

Thank you, Mr. Ward. It was and continues to be my life. lol, it’s just the way it is. Stubborn, tenacious, willful or determined, I really am not sure, perhaps a mix of all of the above but I thank you very much for taking the time to read my ditty.

Hi, Tom, I’m Phyllis 🙂 I never presume. Often people surprise you and stand on ceremony. I don’t but I give others the option of address as it can be very personal to some, and I’ve seen indications where some want that distance. lol

Hindsight being what it is, I probably shouldn’t have used a personal example. I feel a pall coming on lol. Usually by now a few have responded to my daily prompt. I imagine they are lost for words at this point. woops lol

I was afraid what I wrote was too honest. People don’t know how to handle it sometimes. So thank you for responding, I appreciate it. Smooch on the cheek dear heart.

True enough. Honestly, I dont know how ppl can lie. Don’t they get tangled up in the webs they weave? I’d trip and fall land on my face haha

People lie because they don’t have the strength to be themselves 🌹
