Craft
Much of what we see today
Once was a craft in its infancy
Delights, thrills, touches our heart
Appeal, exciting in every part
Screenplay, song, poem or movie
All have the power to renew me
Blankets knitted or crocheted
With loving care delicately made
A doctor’s skilled hands that glide
In his work, he takes great pride
A roadside mechanic servicing a car
Whether a humble Toyota or a Jaguar
A craft is a skill brought to perfection
By people willing to take direction
Until their craft was whole and complete
Fulfilled and happy, no need to compete
I still like the idea of “craft” as art. It implies doing something with your own hands. Like weaving or potting.

I know, I would have loved to learn pottery. I taught myself to knit and crochet. I crafted my photography and drawing and painting. Hands on experience and so delightful. I think of craftsman from Europe when I think crafts to be completely honest. We start, we learn, we craft what we do into an art form. But that’s just me.

Then automaton took over a lot of our crafts. Great poem. I hope you slept well 🌹

Thank you, that’s how I see it also. I often think of the European Craftsman who spend 30 40 years perfecting their craft and weren’t considered teachers before then. It is astounding how we have moved into automation on nearly ever level, true crafts are nearly a thing of the past.

Yes, thank you, Elaine, for the short period of time it was, I did. I’m still very tired since it wasn’t quite long enough.

Good, I’m going to bed now, I’ve got the cough and sore throats again! Just had honey and lemon drink. Will probably be up in the night again xx

Your writing is definitely your craft, Phyllis, not just the sum of your skills. Just my point of view. 😉 xoM

Very lovely poem. “… a skill brought to perfection” got me thinking. In the wake of all the automation going on today, which skills will remain as crafts tomorrow. How far will machines go?

A question I’ve pondered many times. I love the renewed interest in “crafts” because many are going back to basics, and I think it’s incredibly important. I often wonder if we lost electricity, how many could possibly survive? It’s a thought!
